1. Preparation before cleaning
Check container integrity: Ensure that cardboard boxes, cups, etc., are not damaged or severely deformed to avoid further damage to the paper structure during washing.
Remove food residue: Gently scrape away any residue with a paper towel or soft brush to prevent food residue from producing odors during washing.
Categorize and pre-sort: Place containers according to their type (square boxes, round cups, trays, etc.) for targeted cleaning later.
2. Cleaning method
Warm water rinse: Gently shake the paper container in warm water to remove surface grease and stains; hot water is not recommended as it may deform the paper.
Neutral detergent: For stubborn oil stains, use a small amount of neutral detergent (such as baby hand soap), gently wipe with a soft cloth, and then rinse thoroughly with water.
Air dry: After washing, lay the container flat in a cool, well-ventilated place to air dry naturally. Avoid using a dryer or direct sunlight to maintain the paper's strength.
3. Sorting and Recycling
Clean Paper Recycling: After drying, ensure the container is free of oil stains and food residue before placing it in the recyclable paper bin. This type of paper packaging will undergo softening, shredding, and cleaning processes for reuse after recycling.
Non-Recyclable Paper Containers: If the container is severely damaged or contaminated with grease that is difficult to clean thoroughly, it is recommended to dispose of it in other waste or compost it. Most paper packaging is biodegradable under natural conditions. If it cannot be reused, it can be composted instead of being directly landfilled.
Separating Non-Paper Components: If the cardboard box contains non-paper materials such as plastic lids or metal buckles, these must be removed and disposed of separately in the corresponding recycling channels.
4. Environmental Treatment and Reuse
Reuse Solutions: Clean paper containers can be reused in the food service industry, such as as secondary packaging, temporary storage boxes, or creative craft materials, extending their lifespan.
Composting Treatment: Non-recyclable paper containers can be sent to composting facilities for biodegradation, converting them into organic fertilizer and reducing landfill pressure.
