What are the usage restrictions for plastic food containers during refrigeration, freezing, and hot food storage?

Dec 26, 2025

1. Refrigeration
Temperature Range: 0°C-8°C is the standard refrigeration temperature, which effectively inhibits microbial growth and maintains food freshness.

Applicable Containers: Most PP (polypropylene) or PET (polyester) plastic food containers can be safely used within this temperature range, provided the container is not marked as not suitable for refrigeration.

2. Freezing

Temperature Range: Freezing should be maintained below -12°C, with a recommended temperature range of -18°C to -30°C to ensure long-term food quality preservation.

Material Requirements: Low-temperature resistant plastics (such as high-density polyethylene, HDPE, and PP) can maintain structural integrity at -20°C, making them suitable for frozen food packaging.

3. Hot Food Storage/Heating

Upper Heat Resistance: Some high-temperature resistant PET plastic food containers can be heat-treated at +100°C or even higher temperatures, suitable for microwave or hot food packaging.

Wider Temperature Range: According to product specifications, some PP containers have a temperature resistance range of -20°C to +120°C, suitable for high-temperature heating or short-term cooking.

Usage Notes: Not all disposable plastic containers are heat-resistant. Before use, check the "microwaveable/heatable" label on the packaging to avoid deformation or migration of harmful substances due to the material's lack of heat resistance.
